Francy, Toi never gave Ayabe a happy wholesome friendship memory during memshare week and then I spent the rest of the game nodding to myself like "it's because such a memory doesn't exist in canon"

but ok, ayabe. at the very start, toi had no idea what to make of ayabe because he was so clearly out of place here. his insistence at the beginning that it was just some quirky nonsense a friend of his did concerned toi? he was like, "if this guy does not learn to take getting kidnapped more seriously then he is going to die probably" and... well he did, but he lasted a lot longer than toi would have originally thought, so it's fine. but yeah, their first few interactions consisted of toi growing more and more concerned about ayabe because something was clearly going on with him, and he was very clearly not well in some regard

BUT toi was very firm in not wanting to get close to anyone, so even though he had concerns about ayabe, he never... approached him about any of it or tried to get him to talk about feelings, because that was a thing that friends do and they were not friends! so toi mostly just hoped that other people were doing that instead. so when ayabe said that he made some friends, toi was relieved? because it meant that ayabe in fact was being taken care of in some way, so he didn't have to worry about that anymore and could fuck off forever.

because like... toi did actually like ayabe? he got along with him, and spending time with him wasn't bad, and he could have considered ayabe a friend. ayabe was very close to that point, but then they stopped talking as much, so it never quite got there for toi. but it's also why toi had no issues with agreeing to be friends for one week. since he... already liked ayabe enough as a person by that point so it wasn't that terrible, and also by then they were either all going to die or go home and potentially never see each other again, so it's not like it was a huge risk or anything.

but also toi kind of... purposefully started to stay away from ayabe after the week chuuya murdered for him. and it was mostly because toi found ayabe very deeply relatable. toi, too, would have murdered for his sibling. the only reason he did not was because i oocly was busy, so i had to spin it that he was convinced icly that the tape was fake as to why he didn't stab someone. but it's why he wasn't even remotely annoyed by what chuuya and ayabe did, because he couldn't be!! he would have done the same!!! it's cool!! when toi talked to ayabe after that, he was... trying to get that across but toi is like really goddamn awful at trying to comfort people, so it probably did not come across that way at all. but the reason he started avoiding him more was because toi didn't want to bond with anyone here and he empathized too much there so it was easier to just run instead since ayabe had no idea any of this was even happening. it's fine

so yeah basically, toi liked ayabe a lot more than ayabe knew, toi would have considered him a friend without ever actually admitting this to him ever if their cr had progressed a little more but. it's fine!

I had this afternoon off so I binge watched the entirety of Sarazanmai, and, Francy, Toi had like five seconds of happiness over the entirety of the series up until he turned himself into jail, what the heck!!!!
