SO LIKE from the beginning, Nie Huaisang kind of side-eyed him for giving him so many compliments? He was busy playing useless and every time Agni would say he was smart and good at things he was internally going 'can he tell, does he know, what the fuck'. He thought Agni was smarter than he acted too, and the week he stabbed Melt kind of confirmed that what with him pointing out the ways in which everyone was letting him just get away with it... and also with him being the one who figured NHS out thanks to roomquest 2k20. SO. That made him even warier!
And then memshare happened and I know you said you thought our cr was going to be tanked and it came pretty close to NHS just running from him forever, honestly. But then after seeing what he'd done and knowing what NHS had been up to, Agni bothered to ask if he was lonely because of it. That's literally what saved their cr and helped step it up a bit-- NHS didn't get the impression he was going to be turned on, if Agni was actually asking questions like that, and Agni knew the worst thing about him after memshare. If he was still willing to speak to NHS after that, then it was easier to drop the act around him. He still ended up largely dropping it in general, but Agni is one of like... two people who have gotten the most genuine sides of NHS? He eventually stopped caring about what he said around Agni because it just didn't matter.
He also sort of ended up on Agni's side by default because Brilith hated him and he just did not care about their drama... Agni seemed to him like the type who would appreciate just talking about whatever else, and so that was what he continued doing in between more plot-related discussions. Which was also partially because he stopped faking it around him and was able to just relax a little and say whatever, since Agni never seemed bothered by it. The perks of temporary friendship with gods, probably.
anyway he's going to remain minorly petty over the fact that Jin Ling and Beau both found out the plan and he never knew anything about it but that's just because he had some frustrations about feeling like he always found things out later than others. He gets it. NHS doesn't think he made the wrong decision in what he did, honestly.
He'll probably bother him through the pendants if Agni bothers to take one, since he's gotten more comfortable with him! If not, though, he's used to losing connections with people so he will shrug & move on. You do your god thing, Agni.
So he told him he reminds him of Jin Guangyao, but what he didn't say was that he kind of picked up on shades of himself too... he was always a little wary of Akechi because of the Vibes he got from him, but NHS was willing to work with him because he seemed intelligent and wasn't bad at actually getting shit done. He gets the revenge thing, too, even if they don't see eye to eye on methods.
Memshare really kind of solidified the 'oh hm I was right about the Vibes' and is why NHS is reminded so much of Guangyao, but honestly, he didn't say it to Akechi because he sees him as the same kind of threat. Like. Akechi died way earlier than JGY did so he kind of didn't feel very threatened. Instead he sort of wondered if things were different for him, if Akechi might turn out better, because like I mentioned before-- he seemed smart and could take things on, it was just a shame about the, uh, everything else. Not that NHS has much room to talk! But he knows that. He was honest about who Akechi makes him think of because he doesn't think that it's entirely a bad thing; even Guangyao had his good points and his skills, for all the shit he did.
Basically he thinks Akechi has potential that could be put to better use if he lived and were in different circumstances, so if there hadn't been a way for him to go home and be alive-- NHS really was going to offer him a place in his Sect if he wanted it. NHS thinks he could do well.
So ultimately he wouldn't say he likes Akechi, exactly, but that's more because they were never close enough for that. He does hope things turn out better for him this time, though, because it would be nice to know that someone like him turned things around instead of having to be killed a second time.
he will remain mildly salty that he picked up on akechi probably having a role and couldn't get confirmation until later on though, bc he's just like this.
FLURRY I SWEAR TO GOD THIS CR SNUCK UP ON ME IN AN ALLEY AND CLOCKED ME IN THE FUCKIN HEAD. WHAT HAPPENED.
He liked Beau well enough from the beginning! She laughed at shitty smut with him and was kind to him when he lost his sight, and was just... a good person to hang around? He attached to her because of that, and I won't lie, at first it was because he hoped she would protect him somewhat. NHS absolutely played up the helplessness with her more at first because of that. But she very quickly proved she was someone who he could lean on, and she seemed like the safest person there was to go to when he needed help-- so that's how she's the one he asked to cover for him, with Stefano. If she wouldn't do it, then he didn't think anyone would; in a situation where he'd be screwed either way, he decided to take a risk and entrust her with that, because it couldn't possibly go worse if she exposed him than it would if he were caught with an injury and exposed that way.
AND THAT'S WHERE he started to legitimately like her more, because she just threw herself right into helping and even when he had to talk her out of just saying something from the start, she was willing to go with that and help him hide it. That earned her some actual trust, and the fact that she thought to question if he was lying and point out that she was easy to try to take advantage of earned her respect as well. He could tell she was smarter than she looked sometimes, so this was more or less the point where she slid from 'person who will help me' to 'person I'm willing to trust'.
Memshare took that and went turbo with it, because she saw what's more or less the worst of him and got it. The fact that she understood and accepted it even if she didn't agree with all his methods was a big deal, because he's spent a Long time in canon keeping his distance from people and not letting them catch a whiff of what he's actually like. Having someone see that, and see him, and still be there for him was major for him, and learning more about her made him like her even more, too. Finding out about her work got her more respect points, that was absolutely a level-up into considering them to be more alike than he'd previously thought, and looking back at it I'm pretty sure that's where he started catching feelings, and liked/respected her enough for it to be possible.
Past that-- whew. He knew she was more affected by losing people here than he was, because he only really cared about a very specific few surviving, so he... tried to be there for her, like she'd done for him when he needed it post-murder. She mattered enough to him for him to actually try to be an emotional support, and if she died he would have lost his shit on someone over it? Monster or not. If a monster had killed her and been saved he would still never forgive that person. Genuinely can't tell you if he'd still kill them or not, it'd depend on whether it happened before they found out additional murder is definitely bad, because he would also have wanted to make sure he got her brought back to life. No matter what, he would have considered it.
AAANYWAY. He knew he fell for her that time they got really high and were doing abstract paintings, and he realized how much he wanted to just kiss her. That was the 'oh, I'm fucked' moment because he knew it would not work out that way, but... he was too selfish to distance himself, so it's only gotten worse since then and now here we are! He has a lot of feelings and he's stuck with them! Sometimes you just platonically propose to your lesbian crush because you're good enough at ignoring your feelings that you're pretty sure you can be married to her and not just hate everything the whole time. It'll be fine, honestly. Maybe he'll hook up with Jiang Cheng. He still wants to see her happy, so if she finds a gf, good for her.
he'll still pine for a while but he's gonna do it as silently as possible.
Ayabe was one of the few people here he like. Really, actually liked. A lot of it was, honestly, the big brother thing... Nie Huaisang absolutely has Feelings about family, so he didn't like the idea of Ayabe being deprived of his, or his siblings being deprived of their brother. He knows how it feels to lose family that you love, and he didn't really want that for Ayabe. Him being the mom friend even to adults was pretty endearing, too-- Ayabe's a responsible boy and he likes that?
He didn't really know what to do with him when things got bad, though-- the way he put it to Beau once was that he knows how to live with things, but he doesn't know how to teach that, or how to help with it very well. There was an attempt or two, but honestly he lowkey went 'well, if he can't keep himself together he's probably going to die here and I'm not the right person to do anything about that'.
...and then he was right and Ayabe got killed. His death's honestly one of the only ones NHS actually kind of gave a damn about, because gestures above about wanting him to be able to return to his fam. He'd have been fine leaving a lot of the graveyard behind if it came to it, but he would feel worse about Ayabe staying dead than the majority of them. I'm pretty sure Ayabe, Anya, and Phoenix are the only ones he'd have felt bad about if they couldn't come back.
Sipp I gotta be real he mainly cared about Phoenix because Beau did... he didn't dislike him, but without her influence he would have been like hm, yeah, that guy! I'm sorry he's like this, he doesn't attach to people much these days. BUT, because Beau cared about him, he was one of like three whole people NHS actually kinda cared about bringing back to life.
I also have to be real he absolutely lied to Phoenix when he asked about Stefano's death, he was being fake when he said he just wanted to stick together and then only realized later he could be in danger... he was waiting for an opportunity to sneak attack Stefano the entire time and stayed real close on purpose so he could get him. I don't know that he ever actually admitted this to anyone, but there you go.
BUT he did appreciate Phoenix for being smart and trying to help, especially at the end-- he's glad that they had Phoenix on their team for it, and it's good to know that he's alive again. They weren't close enough for him to be too invested, but it is more than 'just for Beau's sake' by now.
Tbf Phoenix knew beforehand he had killed Stefano hahaha and he didn't really buy NHS's story but still figured it was ultimately self defense and that Stefano was the bigger threat
I'm glad he didn't buy it because NHS was full of it, the details were largely correct but lmao at him pretending to feel bad over it. He did not. Phoenix is so valid, honestly.
He's honestly still a little like ?? over Hori being a sword but you know what? He is from a fantasy enough canon that he has just never questioned it. Horikawa is some kind of sword and that's fine, he questioned the robots much more than he ever questioned what Hori actually is. I hate that.
But! He liked Hori... shadies know shadies, and after Hori's reaction to memshare he definitely liked him more. The fact that he just went with it and didn't at all mind that NHS was clearly the sneaky type was a major point in his favor and ARI I JUST. went to look at that thread like 'i don't think ari tagged me back on that i didn't get a return memory did i' and you DID i just lost it. god. please always feel free to yell at me to tag shit. but anyway he knows what it's like to have to do things alone, even if he's not used to having a partner himself... he really does hope that Hori gets to go home to Kanesan and rejoin his partner, because other people should be able to have that. Please go running back to him and don't make me sad over thots Kanesan oh my god let them be happy.
i personally love and support Galo, but NHS has had no idea what to really do with someone like him.
LIKE- the world he's from is pretty politically involved, and as the younger brother of a Sect Leader and then Sect Leader himself, he definitely grew up around politics and has always had an eye for that sort of thing? He spends a lot of time evaluating people, and Galo is a pretty rare personality type for him to run into; he's a little amazed that Galo survived all the way to the end, honestly, because his expectation was 100% that Galo was going to try to save someone or do something to try to help everyone and get himself killed doing it-- or that a monster would target people trying to help, or who had medical experience, to try to screw everyone over.
So he likes Galo, but definitely stayed at a bit of a distance both because of expecting him to die and because he just-- couldn't relate. Like, Galo also got the betray button slammed on him in a major way and he's still just a good dude, whereas NHS got the betray button hit and more or less has been a totally different person after it changed things for him. He hasn't really expected Galo to fully understand him in turn, so he never really tried to find out, because it's usually safer that way anyway.
Going on the house adventure with him definitely helped boost his opinion of Galo though, as did knowing Beau liked him-- he might have actually been disappointed if Galo died at some point, for all that he thought it was likely to happen. That's more than he could say for a lot of people here.
i also need to add: he does hope things work out for him, because they somehow went fine for Galo here in murder mansion? He's used to, you know, the world coming down hard on things like idealism and optimism, so he thinks it'd be nice if things keep going well instead. Maybe it's not totally pointless to operate that way-- or maybe Galo was just lucky, who knows, but it would be nice if it were the former.
anya genuinely was too pure for him-- I have to say that when he told her in an early thread that he didn't think someone like Stefano would have let her truly know him, that was kind of an 'I would sure know' sort of thing, because he was also being pretty fake about being upset over doing it. He didn't care that he killed Stefano and Anya was way too good to him anyway, and the worst thing is he doesn't really feel bad about her being too good to him. Lord.
Anyway he likes Anya! He thinks she seems like the type who can deal well with Jin Ling, and she's kind and easy to speak with... he does feel somewhat bad over letting her die and thinks he possibly could have done more, but mainly apologized to her because he felt like he should. She'd been sweet to him and it was a shame that she died the way she did.
He's glad she's alive again though, in part because of what she told him about her and Jin Ling, and he appreciated the conversation they had about his thing for Beau also-- Anya really is just too powerful, god, she got more deets somehow than most people he talked to. Maybe in part because he wasn't as close to her so it was easier to say things. NHS thinks she seems like she'll do well, though, and like she could be good for Jin Ling, so he supports them! Come visit, go on some dates with Jin Ling, if they get engaged he will be so pleased that Jin Ling's getting married before his uncle. Ask NHS for deets on the family and he'll give them to her.
HE DID HAVE THOUGHTS ON THE DOG and trav I'm sorry he's more a bird/cat type person, he did not care about the dog all that much.... NHS in a constant state of 'why am I talking to this small animal' when they were having conversations, god.
But he was nice to pet, anyway, and he wasn't terrible company, it's just that NHS never quite got over the 'I'm talking to a dOG' thing because it was deeply weird for him and he just didn't, uh, think much of Missile because of it. Missile had good ideas sometimes and picked up on things! He was also still a dog. So in the end it like... wasn't so much a case of disliking Missile so much as he was definitely nowhere near team 'I'd die for this dog'. If he'd had to kill someone it would have been Missile because he's not a person, and if he had been a monster he would also have killed Missile both to hurt people and because of his capability to sniff check during trials.
again i'm so sorry this really pained me to type because I, PERSONALLY, LOVE AND SUPPORT THIS DOG but boy my character didn't. please tell me missile gets to go be happy.
wheezes i keep feeling bad as i type up nhs's feelings on people, i'm sorry he's this way nik
which is to say that he didn't feel too much one way or the other about her, for the most part? She didn't seek him out & seemed busy to him, so he sort of wrote her off aside from paying attention to her in trials etc like he did with just about everyone. he was also kind of put off by the blood thing in part because he didn't know her-- like, it definitely made sense later why she needed it! it worked out to be a good idea! but he definitely shut her out a little more because he was side-eyeing going to someone who was basically a stranger for that, there was def an element of 'why do you want mine, go bother somebody else' that he tried not to let on too much at the time.
which kind of dovetailed with like-- he understood she was busy bc all these geniuses kept breaking into rooms and getting hurt all at once, but he wrote her off further bc she came to him about the blood thing but not his injuries? that + assuming she had her hands full meant he just kept going to other people he trusted more to take care of things... he is just the kind of person who would seek out someone he likes with less first aid skills over an actual doctor he didn't know, unfortunately, he's like this. if she'd sought him out he would have probably let her help but he didn't want to go ask for her help, more or less.
ultimately he feels like he sooort of gets what she is now after their last talk?? and understands more why she wouldn't admit to her position when he said he suspected her, bc he did catch on to her specifically saying she wasn't on note crew... but decided not to push it bc of what she said about not having autonomy. NHS kind of went 'ok, I'm probably not getting more than that in that case', because while he does think she has a soul and is basically a possessed person-shaped machine-- the impression he got from that was that she's something that's controlled to at least some degree? and he knows that's not something that would break easily, so he didn't try. he would tell her she has a soul, but he might not tell her she's a person, that's about where he's at there.
closes my eyes real hard, i think that's everything,
IT WAS NOT EVERYTHING i forgot she did get some points for the part where she was like 'i hope beau has the support she needs' because people caring about how she was doing was always a plus to NHS, honestly.

If he'd had to kill someone it would have been Missile because he's not a person, and if he had been a monster he would also have killed Missile both to hurt people and because of his capability to sniff check during trials.
again i'm so sorry this really pained me to type because I, PERSONALLY, LOVE AND SUPPORT THIS DOG but boy my character didn't. please tell me missile gets to go be happy.

which is to say that he didn't feel too much one way or the other about her, for the most part?
