anyway! so the first thing i must say is that, for the first few weeks, zenitsu just got on toi's nerves LMAO. toi can be pretty calm and collected about most things, but he does still have a short temper when it comes to certain things. so the fact that zenitsu kept crying, and seemed to be concerned about things that seemed fairly dumb??? to toi??? was just annoying. toi also decided that if he ever had to kill someone here for whatever reason, zenitsu would potentially be a candidate because he seemed like a lil bitch. i'm so sorry.

that said, i know i made the enta comparison oocly, but toi was also making it icly. A VERY QUICKY SUMMARY is that, enta is a boyfriend that toi loves very much, but he also has an extremely complicated relationship with. toi has no idea if enta even considers him a friend and for once it has nothing to do with emo tsun projecting, it's a valid reason to be ??? over it. on top of that, anya reminded toi a lot of his other boyfriend, kazuki, who enta has feelings for. YOU CAN PROBABLY SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING. so every time zenitsu would start arguing with toi about anya, or how he treated her, toi mostly just got major enta vibes and it was killing him since toi is from a canonpoint where he cut those two out of his life and was prepared to never see them again so getting constantly reminded of them was horrible. it made him want to talk to zenitsu even less, which is also why he made it so difficult for the two of them to have any sort of real conversation for a while.

and then things changed when 1. melt died and 2. anya died. toi actually thought very hard about whether to keep staying with zenitsu or if he should just permanently move back to his room with melt after anya died. and i think that the decision to keep staying with him, even though he would still go back to the other room sometimes, did change things for toi. because toi was very actively attempting to sabotage any chance of forming friendships in this game because he didn't want people to get attached to him. and that would be a lot more easily done if he just kept by himself!! but zenitsu was one of the people who was nice to him after melt died, even though he kind of tried to hide it behind anya being nice instead lmao. and then when anya died, toi... did not want zenitsu to go through the same thing he did. losing melt was very difficult, and he figured zenitsu was also going through a hard time. and they didn't let toi be alone through that, so toi decided to not let zenitsu be alone either. it was also around this part where he stopped being annoyed at the crybaby stuff. like, he was still annoyed, but it was less in a "i dislike this person" way and more just in a general "i am a grouch" way.

there wasn't really a specific moment that made toi realize he considered zenitsu a friend. it was just like, time passed, and he blinked and was like, "oh, i guess we're friends." but!! unfortunately toi would never admit to zenitsu he thought they were friends!! because as i said, he did not want people getting attached to him, so toi figured that if he kept insisting he didn't need friends and it was too much trouble, people would stop trying to be his friend. it's also why toi didn't really ask zenitsu about anything like, personal, because he knew once they got into that territory the social link would deepen and he was trying to avoid that from happening. which is why the point when toi finally started asking questions about where zenitsu is from was important, since that was toi kind of admitting that he thought they were friends without like, actually saying it.

on that note, the whole monster thing. just killed toi. somehow a large part of the monster population ended up being part of the small group toi considered a friend, or was at least someone he had positive feelings towards, and it was funny. but also, literally after anya died, toi went on high alert mode over zenitsu because his luck was so bad when it came to roomies/friends. so he was!! pretty upset that zenitsu was a monster! he wanted to help him and he didn't know how. and then hearing zenitsu say that no one cared about him, was... upsetting. since toi's goal was that he didn't want these people to consider him a friend, but when zenitsu said that, toi immediately backpedaled and was just "oh shit i fucked up" because he realized he did not want zenitsu to think that laughs. so zenitsu did a 180 and went from someone who toi probably would have knifed if it came down to it to being someone toi would want to protect instead. very funny. i mentioned that toi isn't going to seek anyone at endgame because he is going to uh,,, go through some things,,,, BUT whenever things chill out, toi would tentatively seek zenitsu out afterwards. very tentatively. it's fine.

although i do have to say here that toi actually is unsure if zenitsu actually likes him as a person or not. toi knows that the reason zenitsu reached out to him so much is mostly because of anya. which... goes back to the enta thing, funnily enough. but it's also why if toi tries to talk to him after endgame it'll be so tentative because he is not sure if zenitsu would still actually care to? because there is a difference between seeking someone out because they were important to someone you like, versus you seeking them out for only them, and toi does not want to assume it was the latter.

he was.... actually rooting for zenitsu and anya. he is never going to find out about that entire love mess because he is never going to ask, but if he ever finds out that jin ling and anya are now a thing he's going to be :/ about it a bit. since even though zenitsu made it clear he liked girls, he was also so focused on anya and her happiness that it's a little sad to toi that they never got to do anything with that. AGAIN, he will never ask, so he will never find out the results of how that happened but just now that you at least had one supporter on your side.
