jfc idek what to do with this cr sometimes i cannot believe
so i think like a lot of people here, beau thought nhs was sort of useless at the start. kind of pathetic, kind of the type of person that gets long, heavy sighs. but he was nice enough! he was someone she didn't mind being around, and she was interested in his world based on what she'd talked to jin ling about? she thought it was cool that ki and qi are so similar, but honestly, the thing that changed everything and made it go turbo was nhs coming to her to cover up the stefano murder.
beau's morality is weird. she's obviously not against killing, but it has to meet her moral standards, and fortunately self defense is one of those standards. she was not expecting him to come to her and tell her he'd killed someone in self-defense. and she was definitely not expecting to have to cover it up, either? and she still feels gross about covering it up, too, like - if she'd had it her way she would've just gotten it over with immediately and been like it doesn't matter who killed stefano, he's dead and a bastard (not that this is how murdergames work but listen). she was very concerned that nhs was playing her, because at this point he'd cut her with his fan and so she knew he had a secret shady side under all that "WAAAH I'M BABY" - so she spent a lot of that trial being like god, i hope nhs isn't just playing me like a fiddle. but he wasn't! and nhs didn't die, and even past that, he offered to sit with her while hunter was zombie'd. and... she felt good about being able to do something? even if it wasn't the greatest morally, she managed to do something pretty sneaky, and that appealed to her like nobody's business.
so that was the first part of nhs raising in ranks. he sat with her even though corpse hunter made him uncomfortable. beau appreciated that. i'm not sure she could've come out of that without severe emotional damage if phoenix and nhs hadn't been there for her.
so then memshare fucking kicks in the door and she finds out his whole deal? and like, yeah, that makes sense. and she didn't paticularly like the way he did it but his whole being a loner for 10 years to expose some rich fuck's whole career is like, the coolest thing ever to expositor in training beau. and on top of that, nhs saw her dad memory, and... just kind of like, offered his own name instead. beau had NO IDEA what to do with that, but it really, honestly touched her. she really liked the idea of being a nie? just... anything to distance herself from the legacy she felt like she couldn't live up to. part of her wants to keep lionett to make it her own, but the other part of her is so relieved to not be associated with her father.
(this is a side note - every time nhs was like "i have to protect myself because people want to kill me and so i have to be prepared to be dead" to beau's face, beau lost a year off her life, so thanks for that GOD.)
nhs is also the only dude who got high with her, lio and ayabe were scrubs who wouldn't. so okay they have - this whole thing, and nhs just CONTINUES to fucking validate the shit out of her? i think the best thing he could've done for her was tell her she's blue and not green, like that - makes no sense out of context but. beau's been trying so hard to be More, and to be More on her own merit, be More because she did it and not because her father was responsible for any of it. she became an expositor on her own, she's cobalt blue because she made her own destiny, and having someone important to her recognize that and tell her that - honestly, if she wasn't gay she might've kissed nhs herself. 100% they would've slept together if nie huaisang was a woman like, week three, no joke.
that's been a big struggle, too. she feels immensely guilty for not being able to give him what he wants, and she knows that he's okay and would never push or even ask, it's just - she loves him in a fierce, protective sort of way, just not the way he loves her. and she doesn't have the ability to love him romantically, but she wants him to be happy and she wants him to have someone who understands, and they both really just understand each other on a level that beau thinks not many people do. they're both shitty people who try, and sometimes they misstep, and neither of them can fault the other. beau said it to hunter - it's difficult to have someone get you so thoroughly and not be able to do anything about it.
you could really see the ride or die status happen when beau went to nhs over everybody else to cry about ayabe. nhs being there for her when she needed him just really kept her going. i really think she might've just given up after phoenix if her cr hadn't done so much to prop her up, just gave her a little bit more to keep going.
KEEPING SECRETS FROM HIM ALSO KILLED HER like blue, or like the role stuff, or the flute. she had reasons for all of those things, but. she'll probably eventually apologize more thoroughly for doing it just because.
anyway beau wants to make this work, she's gonna do her best to help run things, and she's going to be there for nhs, because he needs someone to keep him grounded, and she's too selfish to give him up. it'll work out.
