DOCTOR

It's an ordinary Monday. Whether you rose with the sun or enjoyed a little lie in, the day proceeds as it has just like the days before it. However, sometime in the early afternoon you soon feel an increasing sense of curiosity that compels you to open the nearest door. No matter where you are, this door leads you to a small, cozy office. The fireplace crackles, soft lights illuminate the furniture around the room, and the three members of Master Blue's staff immediately rise to their feet.

"Hello, Doctor!"

ROLE INFORMATION

As the Doctor:
Every Monday, the Doctor will meet with the staff and be given the opportunity to grant two players protection for the week. One name may be submitted to protect a victim from a monstrous foe, and the other name may be submitted to protect a victim from a kill by human means. The Doctor may not grant these two forms of immunity to the same person, however.

Should the Doctor choose to protect someone and that person is selected as a victim, the Doctor's name will be provided as the victim and they will be given the change to fight back against the killer. They may or may not survive this encounter.

The choices must be made at the time of the meeting. The Doctor only gets one meeting per week and they must choose wisely who they wish to protect. The Doctor also has the option not to submit their choices.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

The Doctor will be allowed to ask questions about the ongoings of the mansion. They will also be able to receive small hints should they perform well, including game mechanics, locations and more. However, the staff have final say as to what information is shared. Be sure to pick your questions wisely!

Did you hear the radio this morning, too? [With the ominous motive...]

Yes. There was the story about the man whose wife came back from the dead, and, um... a warning about keeping secrets.

[cluedin]

Right. It's...hard to say, but there are some people who may act on those warnings. Not to mention what happened with Nikki may happen again.

...it's not much, but you have the power to protect two people. One can be safe from falling prey to a monster, and one can be protected from becoming a victim of circumstance.

[Only two... It's not that Peach was wrong at all, because two is better than nothing, but she still looks crestfallen...]

... W-wait... monster?

I don't understand, I-I thought you said it would be one of us.

Or... do you mean something like Nikki?

[cluedin]

Something like Nikki. [She's very firm about that.] It's...it feels wrong to call her a monster, but if Michiru hadn't taken care of her, that's what she would have remained. She wasn't just a girl anymore.

We...did a lot of research on Friday but it all kind of pointed to the same thing. People who are impacted like that will continue to be infected until the monster's killed. [She rubs one of her ears.] We'd rather be prepared for if something like that happens again.

[brokethefirst]

Infected...

And you don't think there's anything else we can do for them? We just... let them turn into something horrible and attack the rest of the house?

[Sitting by and doing nothing while people died... BOY THAT DOESN'T MAKE HER GOOD WHATSOEVER]

I'm sorry, I... I know that's not your point.

But this whole situation... everything... it's so cruel.

[cluedin]

...the thing is that we don't know when people will change, or if they'll change at all, until it already happens. We were locked in our room on Thursday, too, when Nikki changed and attacked Haruka.

So the rules were put in place. It's our job to follow the rules and ensure they're enforced, but...it does seem unfair, doesn't it? [There's a light frown.]

...we thought you would be good for this job, but there is a catch.

[brokethefirst]

It does. But... it might sound odd to say I, um... I really do understand.

[She's not happy that she understands. But orders were orders...]

What kind of catch?

[cluedin]

[There's a smile because like. Yeah. It sure sucks.]

...the catch is that while you're able to provide protection to two people, should one of those people become a target...you'll have to replace them.

[She's quick to continue though.] But you'll know ahead of time so you can prepare to defend yourself! It might be better to take out the threat yourself anyway. [There's a beat.] You also have the option of not picking anyone at all.

[brokethefirst]

By take out, you mean...

Doing nothing is no better than what I'm doing now, isn't it? [Her voice has grown small, frightened, but not lacking a conviction that fights with how she trembles.]

...H-how much time would I have to think over what I might have to do? Who I choose, and what I do if I, um... have to be the one to take their place...?

[cluedin]

[A solemn nod. Sorry, Luna.]

For everything to work with the proper protocol...it can only be 24 hours. Tomorrow morning we would need your choice. But we can't entirely predict how long you'd have before you'd have to take care of someone else.

But you always have time to think of a back-up plan in case. [...]

We understand this is a lot to ask you, but...the choice is still yours. We also ask that you keep these meetings, and your new ability, a secret.

[brokethefirst]

[She numbly nods her way through most of that explanation, up until the end.

More secrets, more lies. Maybe this really is a punishment.]

...Is that an order?

[cluedin]

[She considers that for a moment....and there's a very soft nod.]

Yes ma'am.

[brokethefirst]

[/insert morphogenetic sorrow here/

She stiffens, a cold and sorrowful look passing over her face... but it fades back, passive as she nods obediently.]

...Understood.

I'll... I'll do what I can, then. Thank you.

[How is she supposed to chose two? Only two?]
