GAME INFO

The swell of violins and the powerful wail of brass horns brings you to consciousness almost immediately. Even as the music continues to play, it soon becomes evident that no orchestra can be found in the room. While your eyes adjust to the bright lights bouncing off of the chandeliers, the delicious scents of delicacies beyond your wildest dreams rise from the table in front of you. Everything is warm, fresh and prime for the taking...though you may wish to consider sharing. After all, you aren't alone. As everything comes into focus, your gaze meets that of several other guests dressed in their finest clothes and accessories. But don't worry! You've also dressed to impress, though you don't remember why. In fact, you hardly remember anything at all, and you most certainly don't remember being invited to this dinner party. But surely you must have RSVPed. After all, you're still holding a card with your name and confirmation clearly labeled under the invitation.

"Please respond to Master Blue's invitation at least one week prior to the event to secure your seat and accommodations.

This dinner is guaranteed to be an event to die for."

[community profile] bluesclues is a short-termed murder mystery game set in the mansion of the elusive and wealthy Master Blue. Drawing on popular mystery and horror elements, and the party game mafia, characters will arrive on-site with no recollection of how they got there and no way of immediately leaving. With several areas of the mansion under lock and key, it will be up to individuals to explore the house and bring its dark secrets to light if they wish to survive.

They were invited, after all.

FORMAT

This game is loosely based on the Mafia party game, though we will be changing a few things as necessary for this game's particular play style.

Happenings in the house will ensure that at least once a week, one victim will be targeted and killed. From there, the remaining guests will have to gather together and work to not only catch the true culprit but also unravel all of the mysteries of the mansion. Clues can be found within the setting itself, but it will take a certain amount of knowledge about your fellow companions to truly uncover the answers you seek.

While the traditional Mafia style has a set group of killers, we will be operating with a rotating mafia system. What this means is that each week one character will be RNG'd as the killer. Characters are tasked with finding the culprit and solving the mystery of that week. In addition, characters may come to find that there are other things occurring behind the scenes that can (and will) meddle with their attempts of leaving this house.

SCHEDULE

MONDAY-THURSDAY: Each Monday will begin with a weekly mingle for characters to explore the setting and get to know each other. These will go up at 9am PST/12pm EST.

FRIDAY: Body announcement! For those of you who were in games such as [community profile] plasmatio or [community profile] subdivided, you may recall that we had a system in which we posted a brief NPC announcement regarding that week's victim(s). We will not be hosting traditional investigations that day, though characters may wish to explore on their own. We will go into more detail about what will be possible upon game start.

SATURDAY: It's Trial Day! All characters will be required to attend ICly and we do ask that players are available for these days! If you need to miss a trial, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance so we may plan accordingly! Trials will begin at 9am PST/12pm EST and will go until 6pm PST/9pm EST unless stated otherwise. ICly characters will not be able to leave the trial unless ICly dismissed early, nor are characters ICly allowed to skip trials.

Since we're not hosting traditional investigations, trial days will also allow time for characters to review the bodies of the victims and utilize tools from the NPCs to perform a sweep for evidence where they will be allowed to check out the setting, look for clues and test theories to aid them in solving the mystery.

IC voting will also be live at the start of the trial and close at the end. All characters must vote! Not voting is grounds for being ICly killed off, thereby out of the living side of the game.

Once the vote is closed, the NPCs will make a final announcement of who has been voted for.

SUNDAY: Execution day! Executions will go live at 10am PST/1pm EST and while these are also not mandatory to be present for, they are open to the public to witness.

This cycle repeats until we hit an ending to the game.

In addition, for those of you who will receive roles, we will provide you with your schedule at the time of acceptance and role introduction.

ROLES

As mentioned there are other roles outside of our weekly killers. These roles will be selected and players will be notified prior to game start. Please note: players with roles should keep these roles an IC/OOC secret!

[community profile] bluesclues will have the following roles:

Investigative: Based on the detective role of standard Mafia, two characters will be able to investigate one other character per week. They only get one chance per week. More information will be given out at the time of assignment.

Protective: Based on the doctor role of standard Mafia, one character will be able to assist other characters in the game once per week. More information will be given out at the time of assignment.

Everyone else: Even if you do not have a specific role, there will be plenty for you to do, and a little incentive goes a long way. More information will be available once the game starts going.

VOTING

As notated above, before the end of each trial characters are required to vote! Not voting is heavily frowned upon and if this occurs your character will be killed off! The only exception will be if you let us know ahead of time that you will be unavailable for any particular trial. Please try not to miss several trials or two trials in a row.

There will be a special screened post for votes during each trial. There will be comments to vote for culprits and these will be linked with every trial for ease of navigation. Please be sure to read your voting page very carefully before submitting your vote.

FAQ

What is the pacing of the game?
Our game will be running on a 1:1 schedule and functioning on PST. Please refer to the above timeline for when important posts will go up.

Do I have to be present for every trial?
If something comes up and you are unable to be present for a trial, please let us know in advance! We prefer 48 hours in advance (minimum 24 unless it's an emergency), but if you come to us really early before the trial starts or in the first hour of the trial we will be a bit lenient. If you do not let us know in advance, you will be killed off in-game.

How long will the game last?
We're aiming for a minimum of six, an ideal of seven, and a maximum of eight weeks!

Should a player need to leave the game prior to endgame, please speak with the mod team and we will discuss the next steps with you.

What kind of content will be featured in this game?
Blues Clues will lean heavily on several popular tropes from mystery and horror genres. All characters are susceptible to elements ranging anywhere from light paranoia to moderate body horror. We will do our best to warn for items that may make players uncomfortable as they come up (for example, during CYOAs) but if at any time you wish to speak with us about the contents of the game please DM us privately.

If I die early what happens next?
We will have a graveyard for characters to continue playing in and participating in! You can do open threads on the main graveyard post, or you may have private conversations with other dead characters. In addition, characters in the graveyard will be presented with opportunities the living side does not have access to.

Private conversations?
Private conversations! Sometimes your character (or a group of characters) will want to get together with people to spend time together or share information or whatever. This would become a private conversation that isn't shared with the game at large. Please check out the private conversations page for information on how to set up journal filters and more.

How active do I have to be?
We like to see that players are participating either via weekly mingles, private threads, or both in addition to participation in trials! The game functions best when all players are active and engaging, so please keep this in mind when apping in! We ask that your time be managed well.

Additionally if you have a role, we will ask for a little extra higher activity to be around for coordination purposes, etc.

Will there be opportunities for murder besides RNG and murder proposals?
For this game, we will be implementing a system that may entice some characters to murder for a price! Once a week, characters will be notified of a bonus incentive that will encourage them to act out and pull off a kill. Should they succeed, they may be richly rewarded. More information on this mechanic will be discussed upon game start.

How do I contact the mod team for any questions/concerns/murder plans?
We will be operating primarily on Discord, so please be sure to create a group chat with Andie, Ty and Zia! Discord is the most effective method for all of your mods, and our Discord handles will be available in the group server.

RULES

1.) Please be nice! This is a game specifically created with the intention of all of our friends playing together in a fun environment, so we would really love for our friends to treat each other well. Please remember that IC =/= OOC and while murdergames can be competitive we ask that everyone treats everyone else with respect.

2.) Please be active! Yes, we've said it like six times in this page alone but this is a Very Big Thing!

3.) Please keep your roles a secret! Naturally ICly characters may share their roles with each other if it comes up in conversation and it becomes a fun game of chance, but we ask that OOCly you do not share your role(s) with other people.

4.) Keep in mind that this is a murdergame which means your character is just as likely to die as the next! Whether that's in week one or week six, if your character is chosen to be a victim that week they will be sent to the chopping block. However, we will have other things for the dead to do.

5.) At this time, canon powers/abilities are nerfed! While your character may be the strongest most powerful person in their canon it will not mean much here. Oops.

6.) Finally, if at any time you have concerns or feel uncomfortable about something in-game please contact us! As this is a game of our friends, we hope that you guys will come talk to us immediately so that we can get things straightened out and help where we can. Please do not feel as though any concern is too small or insignificant. As mods, we're here to help make everyone feel welcome and have a good time.
