[Even as the second zombie who attacked him tries to wrestle for the saw, he's kicking towards where he thinks her face and neck should be to try and stop her from tugging. It creates enough distance between him and zombie #4 that he gets the opportunity to raise the saw, intending to slam it into her head as well—
And that's exactly when zombie #3 is yeeted in his direction. As it slams into him (and his raised arm), his grip on the saw loosens, and the weapon goes sliding a few feet away from him because of this Sudden Zombie Impact.
[ Is it really fine. Too bad 45 doesn't exactly have the time to check on Hunter in between dodging a zombie really intent on smush so
At this point continuing to lead it around probably is more of a liability than it'll help, but at least the raccoon's officially dead. Rip Akechi, denied his vengeance, may he forever be rivalblocked. Also it's unfair that the water seems to mostly be just an issue for them, but ANYWAY since big guy is Tall and Big she's actually going to stop sharply while it's chasing her, then attempt to slide between its legs to get behind it so she can clamber up its back so she can stab or shoot. One or the other.
Sneaky zombie will just have to wait its turn ig, sure wonder what's coming out of fridge number 13. :/ ]
[Oh, he is absolutely clocking himself in the face with the dumbbell. Right on the jaw, as a matter of fact, and immediately hissing out expletives while (unfortunately!) remaining fully conscious. Boo. 45 is the MVP, though, and Akechi now has one less zombie to deal with. Alas, a lack of leverage isn't going to stop him from being a fucking idiot and trying to wrestle zombie #2, in an ill advised attempt to try and reverse their positions. Let him pin you down, you fuck. Let him bash your brains in. He is pissed and ready to declare #2 his new rival.
Anyway, this is all great and dandy and nothing terrible will happen to Hunter while 45 and Akechi are busy. It's super fine.]
[While all of this is going on, it may be impossible to hear but there's the sound of another set of footsteps leaving the fridges. As the fighting continues, the steps drift further away toward the counter containing the safe. The safe gets ignored, however.
The klepto-zombie leaps on the opportunity to kick the saw out of Hunter's grasp as the other two begin to close in on him, each reaching for a separate limb to begin pulling. Even without his companion, the zombie attempting to drag Akechi away continues to put up a fight. 45 is lucky that tall and hulking can't immediately turn in the room and she has time to clamber up his back to stab him in the skull.
Victory is short-lived.
Glass shatters as something hits the floor, and there's another slide of metal as a golden glint flashes through the dark. Without warning, something speeds past all three of them, the sound of flesh being torn apart and hitting the ground. The zombies surrounding Hunter, Akechi and 45 all drop to the ground moaning and writhing until another sharp sound rings through the air as tendons are cut and blood is spilt. Even the large hulking beast finds himself being cut at the head while 45 takes care of the back, the piece of shoulder dropping from his mouth and bouncing under the other examination table just out of reach. Everything grows silent for a moment before the footsteps begin to move, carelessly kicking bodies aside. The water seems to pull away from the center of the room, retreating back to fridge 13.
The low hum of the fridges come back first, followed by a brief flicker of lights. They still can't see very well, but at least now they have a sense of the room again, littered with dead zombies, spilled blood, and one autopsy table flipped over. The non-Varian body is facedown on the floor with his ass in the air. That's unfortunate.
But now with the lights on they can assess their new friend. Standing about six feet tall, they can see that it's a young man with jet black hair, green eyes and a slight tan. Jeans and a blue hoodie are torn to shreds, body and face covered in gaping wounds and stitches. A tattoo on his arm reads SPQR and a thin beaded necklace hangs around his neck. The pocket of his hoodie is bulky and in his hand is a three-foot glowing bronze sword.
He doesn't move immediately, simply assessing the damage almost like he doesn't even care. At the same time though, he's just picking who's first.
[Oh. Well, he didn't die via zombie, so that's a cool and surprising thing for him. It means that he can stand up almost immediately, and since he can see now... He's scooping up the saw before moving back to regroup with the others, carefully stepping over the myriad of corpses on the ground as he goes.
As he does that, though, he isn't breaking eye contact with whoever this person is. Sometimes you just get in a staring contest with a zombie. As he looks his way, though, and once he's near the others:]
[ They are still decaying, and in her case probably it looks like some of the underlying circuitry on her extremities is starting to show? She also probably took a bit of a fall when sharky hulk collapsed- wtf give her that shoulder, binch- but there's more important things to focus on right now. Like trusting no zombie, especially not one with a glowing sword, because she is absolutely keeping her eyes on it as she edges closer to the other two. ]
They have somehow, miraculously, avoided one grisly death... Only to maybe walk right into another? With the other zombies dead, Akechi carefully picks himself up from the floor, keeping an eye on Not!Percy as the three of them regroup.]
... I'm fine. [Succinct. He might just look a teeny bit unhinged, with a bruise forming on his jaw and zombie guts splattered all over him.] But I believe we have a bigger problem to deal with.
[So, um. Maybe they should shut up for now and brace themselves before they get mauled by yet another zombie? Just a thought.]
[The zombie almost has a blase sort of look on his face, tilting his head this way and that as if he's stretching out his muscles. The sword glints in the low light and bits of zombie guts have splattered over him from the current barrage of fighting he's done. He's glancing first at Hunter, then at 45, and then Akechi before glancing at the safe on the counter and the sink that's still dripping. The water near fridge thirteen has nearly evaporated except for a shallow river near the zombie's feet.
. . .]
...get out. [It's raspy and it's hissed and without warning he lunges. A bottle in his pocket shifts, nearly falling out before he switches gears and immediately moves. Despite being a zombie, the speed of this one is faster than his brethren. The sword slashes and stabs, a flurry of movements:
Two sharp slashes appear over Hunter's chest unless he manages to dodge. A stab to Akechi's side is aimed for. A jab to an exposed circuit for 45 is attempted.
He hardly lets up though and immediately moves in for a second attack.]
[Fine, he nearly says to 45's question. That's despite the swollen wrist, cut from a scalpel, and the bruise and blood on his face from a certain zombie's kick. He doesn't get the chance to say that, though, because... Haha.
The blow lands almost before he's realized what happened. There's a sharp noise of pain once again as he stumbles backwards from the force. Given that this new zombie seems to be poised to do the same thing again, though... Gritting his teeth against the pain, he raises the saw. Once the boy is in range, he'll try to swing.]
[ Oh, now they get the fast zombie. One that can talk too.
Anyway, of course it'd- he'd?- go for the obvious weak points- in that case, does it make not-Percy at least a little more predictable? Because she doesn't quite react in time to the first to evade completely, just enough to avoid a direct hit.
On the second pass she's going to brace herself to try to block and catch or grab him somehow, to inhibit his movements if possible because apparently Akechi and Hunter both still have slashy and stabby and she's the one made out of metal. It's fine, probably. ]
[Get out? Hah. Hahahaha. He's tired and angry and covered in zombie zombie guts because they have not, in fact, been able to escape this hell room. Asshole.]
—What do you think we're trying to do?! [He hates zombies so, so very much.
Unfortunately, this particular zombie is fast. He only manages to move out of the way far enough to avoid a direct hit, but the sword still graces his side, making it past his shirt and cutting into his flesh. Not a stab wound, but... also not good. Fuck. No way to safely get close enough to stab him with the knife, so.]
[Hunter swings with the saw and the zombie uses his sword to catch on it, locking the blades and attempting to disarm him in a well-practiced technique. The sword pushes the saw back and slashes over Hunter's knuckles as the zombie uses it to try disarming him that way, but he's bodychecking him in the end to fly toward the sink when the saw grazes over his wrist and he loses his grip on the sword.
It spins out of his reach which means he's growling low in his throat, teeth flashing as he finds himself blocked by 45 as he dodges to pick up his sword and deliver an uppercut swipe to 45 to hack at more of her circuitry before driving the butt of the sword straight into her sternum. Does he care that she's not entirely human? Nope. The room's become stifling with the corpses and little airflow, and as the zombie jumps up to dash across the upright table, he's working on another slash against Akechi's arm. The grip on his sword is just loose enough though that it could be yanked out of his hands, which is maybe great given the fact that he's hauling Akechi up and grabbing the pair of shears in an attempt to pin him up by his sleeves to the wall.]
[It’s absolutely effective! He’s getting shoved backwards and colliding with the sink. The impact stings, as does the cut across his knuckles, but it’s not that bad compared with everything else they’re dealing with right now.
It does stun him long enough that he can’t do much about 45 getting hit in the sternum, but as he sees the zombie grab the shears and start lifting Akechi up, he’s automatically assuming the creature has the worst in mind. That’s why he’s rushing forward and finally doing something even vaguely useful for Akechi, and trying to pull the shears away. Hopefully this distracts boss zombie long enough that Akechi can grab the sword. Maybe. Hunter’s also keeping his head low, so if 45 wants to try and shoot, she has a clear path.]
[ Oh, so the zombie wants to play dirty. Cute. Her system registers pain and minor errors in various parts of her body in warning to not keep doing shit like this, not that she wasn't already aware, thanks, but honestly compared to certain things this is pretty minor. She'll walk it off, it's fine.
(Where is she going to find the materials to repair herself in this museum of a mansion.)
She doesn't bother with a verbal response to Akechi, only raises one finger. Uno bullet. Zombie is fast and she doesn't have that much ammo, so she's not inclined to go for a kill shot until it's distracted. Does trying to pin Akechi up like a butterfly count as distracted? Because as soon as she recovers from getting hit in the sternum by the blunt end of a sword she's going to be darting to the side to line up a shot that ain't also hit the detective behind him, considering that Hunter is also throwing himself at the zombie which would have been her plan if he hadn't beaten her to it. Ganbakechi, get your sword, don't give her away, and don't die? ]
[Amazing. Glad it took them exactly 110 comments to do A Teamwork.
The slash connects, which unfortunately makes it easy for the zombie to haul him up by the arms. He grunts in pain as it happens, squirming and kicking as he's lifted up — but it's probably not until Hunter throws himself at the zombie that he's able to free one of his arms. Should that be the case, he will immediately reach for the sword, intent on yanking it out of his hands with all the strength an adrenaline addled teenager can muster. And, no, no giving 45 away. Take your shot, roomba-san.]
[A singular teamwork. The zombie's fast, making quick work of pinning Akechi. The thing is that 45's shot probably could have worked except for the part where Hunter is suddenly trying to pull the shears away, Akechi's trying to grab for his sword, and the zombie's...
...well. The zombie's straight up punching Hunter away with a pretty strong force, possibly clipping part of his hair with the shears, but that means that Akechi's able to take the sword! Too bad it comes with a free zombie arm! Great! The grip on the sword is pretty strong and with a free-bleeding opened set of stitches, the zombie looks at his lack of an arm for a moment before he seems to move on.
So the zombie is now a one-arm wonder, darting out of the way at lightning-speed (for a zombie) before picking up the safe with one arm to lob at 45 and hopefully throw off her aim with her gun.
Isn't it great that y'all get to fight a war-trained zombie? I think it's great. Hope they can maybe decide Teamwork is valid.]
[Haha! Bad. The punch connects and he drops to the ground, gingerly putting a hand to his cheek. Sometimes you just get cut with a scalpel and kicked and punched in the same area, but it's fine. After a moment, he staggers up. He's a little bit unsteady from a combination of sleep deprivation and getting hit again, but he picks up the shears that the zombie dropped.
He isn't fast enough to stop him from throwing the safe, but he's moving forward to try and drive the shears into his skull. As he does:]
[ That sure is a safe being thrown at her, so yeah, her aim is off and they're throwing themselves at the zombie again so screw trying to get a clean shot in she's just going to catch the goddamn safe.
How's their friend the zombie after getting tackled, is it messy or does she have a clear shot? Does she finally get to shoot him with her free hand after reaiming or is she going to have to metaphorically roll her sleeves up and join in on the tacklepile.
Or preferably kick the zombie's head off like it's a football, because hey, still made of metal, still can hit things pretty solidly? ]
[... Can he bash the hand against the wall or something to let it go? Or is the arm there to stay? He'll stick with the sword for now if the arm doesn't give him any trouble, but if it does — the it's knife time.
Unfortunately for 45, he isn't fast enough to stop the zombie from throwing the safe either. But he will, in fact, join the tackle pile to try and slash through the zombie's abdomen. Please go down, Zombie Jackson. Let them attempt a teamwork once again. Sorry for gunblocking you, though, 45.]
[God Hunter's poor face. Either way, Hunter has the shears, Akechi has the sword and 45 doesn't get to take her shot. The arm is definitely attached to the sword but seems to move on its own to pull at Akechi's hair and try to distract him. The safe crashes into 45's arms and may cause her to stagger if she isn't careful, but given she's a gun she's probably more stable than the other two.
The shears in Hunter's hand drive into the zombie's neck while he turns to try and bite Hunter to avoid being nailed in the skull. The sword slashes through his abdomen, ripping open another seam as blood and innards begin to fall out.
But the problem is that while this works, the sword in Akechi's hand suddenly shrinks back into...a pen? And it disappears from his hands, reappearing in the zombie's pocket. The zombie only has one arm, but he's definitely using it to grab for the pen to uncap it and let the sword elongate to its full 3 feet of blade, sideswiping and kicking at the two in the tacklepile.
Any other bright ideas, friends? Unfortunately for them in the heat of the battle, the zombie doesn't realize that the prize in his pocket is starting to spill out onto the floor.]
[Fuck this zombie. Fuck his pen sword. Fuck this room. This is the worst!!
When he notices something falling out of this zombie's pocket, despite the fact that he's getting kicked, Hunter is going to try and shove into him (hopefully with enough momentum to knock him down) and grab whatever's in his pocket. To Akechi or 45, whoever has a better shot at this point:]
[ Yeah, she has to catch it off center and let it spin her for a bit to shed the momentum, which means she momentarily loses sight of what's going on, but when the safe is set aside and she looks back...
Now that it's actually spilling out she can get a decent glimpse at it and. Liquid. Liquid in a bottle. The shoulder was in one of these things' teeth. Are you kidding her. ]
Don't tell me that's the ointment we need?!
[ would they just be locked in here forever if it all spills, jfc ]
Grab him, hold him down as best you can, pull him apart if you have to, I've had enough--
[ because Akechi seems to be a little more occupied than she currently is she's absolutely going to go for the head and fire when it looks like she's got a clear shot. Look sharp twinks, don't get shot!! ]
The sword in his hand is gone and he's getting kicked back, so that's fun! But the gun has a gun and needs a clear shot, so he'll lend Hunter a hand and try to keep the zombie from moving out of the way before 45 can put a bullet through his skull. Let's, hm, not get stuck in this room forever, team.]
[Haha yeah, they'd be locked in if that happened. Isn't that fun? Luckily for them though the zombie's distracted by Hunter reaching for his pockets and he's trying to elbow him out of the way. The other arm is dragging its nails down Akechi's back as it falls to the floor. Even though the zombie is a few inches taller than both of them, together they'll manage to hold him down.
There's a snarl and he tries to slash his sword with one arm, working to fend them off. Teeth gnash and blood drips from his face, the hilt of the sword slamming into their knuckles hard enough to break their fingers if they don't move.
But sometimes...you cheat by bringing a gun to a knife sword fight. He hears 45 yell, and sees the gun. Something in his expression flickers to an emotion that's almost human, almost like panic before he growls low and raspy.]
Wait, the s-- [He doesn't get a chance to finish his words though, because that is, in fact, brain and blood splattering all over 45's two companions. The creature wilts, and the sword reverts to its ballpoint pen form as it rolls out of his hand and onto the floor. Some of the ointment has spilled, but Hunter was able to save it!
...everything is silent again except for the faint hum of the fridges and the dripping in the sink.]
